Lawmakers introduced a measure in Washington that would protect abortion rights.
Connecticut U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal is one of the sponsors of the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would outlaw states from imposing restrictive regulations and laws on abortion.
"We face a five-alarm fire in the danger to women’s reproductive rights,” Blumenthal told reporters during a press conference Thursday. “And we need to command the urgency and immediacy that all of our lives are at risk.”
This comes a week after Alabama passed a near total ban on abortion. Other states, including Georgia and Ohio, have signed similar bills.
In all, 15 states have passed laws restricting access to abortion this legislative session.
