The New London Submarine Base is one of a handful of sites set to be reviewed by the agency this year.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has begun reviewing cleanups at nine Superfund sites in New England.
The EPA conducts evaluations every five years on cleanup and remediation work at sites on the National Priorities List to determine whether the remedies continue to protect human health and the environment. The evaluations identify any deficiencies in the work and recommend actions to address them.
The sites to be reviewed this year include the South Weymouth Naval Air Station, in Weymouth, and the New London Submarine Base, in New London, Connecticut.
Reviews will also be conducted at three landfills in New Hampshire, including the Coakley Landfill, in North Hampton, the Dover Municipal Landfill and the Savage Municipal Landfill, in Milford.
The Pine Street Canal Superfund site, in Burlington, Vermont, will also be evaluated.
