P.T. Barnum is one of Connecticut’s most influential residents. As the “Greatest Showman,” he dramatically expanded the size and scale of the circus, through brilliant performance, innovations, and marketing.
Born and raised in Connecticut, Barnum was drawn to Bridgeport -- the city he helped create and called home for much of his life. And Barnum’s enthusiasm made its way to politics too. He was Mayor of Bridgeport and a four-term Republican state legislator.
In this hour-long special, Connecticut State Historian Walt Woodward explores Barnum's legacy in Connecticut, and in the circus.
