A Wethersfield man is reportedly in critical condition after injuries suffered during an officer-involved shooting Saturday night.

The Connecticut State Police have identified 18-year-old Anthony Jose Vega Cruz as the driver of a car that was pursued by Wethersfield police.

Two officers were trying to stop Cruz on Silas Deane Highway around 5:59 p.m., according to police. Cruz’s car and a police car allegedly collided and then the state police report that Cruz drove at one of the officers. That’s when Cruz was shot.

Stephanie Santiago, 18, from Hartford, was a passenger in the car. She was detained by the police and then later released.

Cruz was transported to Hartford Hospital.

The Hartford Courant reports that the officer who allegedly shot Cruz has been placed on administrative leave.

Wethersfield police told Connecticut Public Radio that Connecticut State Police are conducting an investigation of the incident.

This report will be updated.
