The University of Connecticut announced plans to close on Monday afternoon in advance of the winter storm.
The school sent a text message to students Monday saying all classes were being canceled as of 3:30 pm and all campuses would be closed on Tuesday.
The school also was closing its library, student union, and all recreational services. The dormitories and dining halls were to remain open. The school said it will continue to communicate with students through text message if there is a power outage, and advised students that using candles is prohibited in the dorms.
UConn's men's hockey game, scheduled at the XL Center in Hartford against Merrimack, was postponed from Tuesday night to February 10.
