Research Reports Spike In Deadly Car Crashes At The Start of COVID Pandemic

While the number of cars on the road decreased during the start of the pandemic, fatal single vehicle crashes more than quadrupled in Connecticut from late March to the end of April according to a report published in a British medical trade journal. The Hartford Courant reportsby the start of May, 25 more people died in crashes this year than last. The researchers believe an increase in speeding and a decrease of police presence on roadways during early stay-at-home orders likely led to the spike in crashes.
