The governor of New York is reported to be courting General Electric to make a move across the state border.
According to Politico New York, Andrew Cuomo met with GE executives at the end of July, during a discreet visit to Connecticut. GE said publicly earlier this year that an exploratory committee within the company is considering options for relocating its corporate headquarters.
Neither GE or Cuomo’s office has commented on the visit.
More Layoffs for RBS
The Royal Bank of Scotland is expanding the number of layoffs its implementing in Stamford.
The bank now says it will lay off 50 more workers in early October. It’s announced 185 layoffs so far in 2015. Earlier this year the bank’s parent in the United Kingdom said that it’s reviewing the need for its Stamford operation. At its peak the headquarters and trading floor employed some 2,400 people.
Seaside Developer Seeks to Sue
The developer who had sought to purchase the site that will now become Seaside State Park in Waterford wants to sue for breach of contract.
Mark Steiner is seeking $20 million in damages, after his plan for an inn, restaurant and housing on the 32 acre site was nixed. Instead Governor Malloy announced last September that the former sanatorium would become a state park. Steiner says he had no time limit on his previous agreement to purchase the site for $8 million, and he had invested time and money in gathering the planning and zoning permits that he needed.
