Rep. Luis Gutierrez: From the Barrio to Capitol Hill

Tucker Ives
/
WNPR

Luis Gutierrez has been a tireless advocate for comprehensive immigration reform throughout his career in congress.

His personal journey is detailed in the book Still Dreaming: My Journey from the Barrio to Capitol Hill,  and it helps explain how a kid who grew up in a tough Chicago neighborhood, then moved to his parents’ homeland of Puerto Rico, ended up tussling with titans of his own party like Dan Rostenkowski and President Barack Obama.

Our conversation was recorded in front of a live and lively crowd at Real Art Ways in Hartford- many drawn to Gutierrez’ strong talk about immigrants rights.

GUEST:

  • Rep. Luis Gutierrez - Democrat from Illinois' 4th congressional district
