For episode 67 of the RLSG, we decided to talk about “holiday stress”. This was before our perception of the world changed - just two days ago - as the heartbreaking series of events played out in Newtown. There will be more than the normal level of stress during this holiday season, and for too many, life will never be the same.

It is with thoughts of those who are no longer with us, and of those who will never see their loved ones again, that we go forward, hoping for a future in which we can live together in peace.

Joining me at Edge of the Woods Natural Market in New Haven were Elena Mayville (who researches emotion regulation in close relationships), teacher, actor, wife and mother Jane Tamarkin, singer, writer, and dad Gerry McGuire, small business owner and mom Deb Grehn, and broadcaster, businessman and "paranoid" parent, Ed Sabatino. (You'll have to listen!)

Elena Mayville was born in New Haven and raised on the West Coast where she lived before returning to attend graduate school—she is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Psychology at Yale University.

Her research focuses on emotions and emotion regulation in the context of close relationships. She works as a clinician treating individuals and couples in placements around New Haven. In her free time, Elena sings with a group on campus, and she enjoys frequenting local theaters, museums, and restaurants.

On Facebook, Jane Tamarkin describes herself as a "Teacher, actor, daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend."

Gerry McGuire took his love of history, trivia, comedy, literature, music and film and turned himself into a pop culture quoting, chat machine.

He is like Cliff Claven from Cheers if Cliff Claven was stunningly handsome, awesomely funny and unbelievably humble. He fancies himself what the French would describe as a raconteur or what Americans call, a loud mouth. Gerry writes for Milford Living Magazine, sings in the Celtic rock band The Butcher Boys and is a stay at home dad.

Deb Grehn is the force behind Rooby Dooby's Cakes, where "butter makes the batter better!" She's also a mom, and the wife of our Executive Producer Kim!

Ed Sabatino's career started early, for 26 years Sabatino was a radio personality, morning show co-host with Glenn Beck at KC101 and Program Director at WPLR in New Haven. At the age of 42 he decided to leave radio and venture out on his own while still working one on one with the community.

He is now the owner / partner of Pane & Sabatino Insurance in New Haven. Ed has also coached baseball and basketball for nearly 20 years. He lives in East Haven with his wife Anna and daughter Kadence.
