A new commuter watchdog group has launched an online effort in Connecticut. It’s called commuteractiongroup.org. The Commuter Action Group’s Jim Cameron says this will give commuters a chance to voice complaints. Cameron says the DOT should do more to hold Metro-North accountable. He says commuters via website, Twitter and Facebook can now immediately report issues using smartphone pictures and detail any problems.
State education officials have ordered Bridgeport schools to take corrective action after finding officials had failed to identify students eligible for special education services.The state Department of Education began investigating after the Center for Children’s Advocacy filed a complaint in October.

H?igh legal costs in the child custody system are just one area under scrutiny by a state panel that must make recommendations to the legislature's Judiciary Committee by February 1. The task force is studying the roles of lawyers and guardians who represent children in contentious cases involving parenting and the custody and care of children.
Black Children More Likely to Die in Gun Homicide
Black youth are 17 times more likely to die from gun homicide than white children. According to a 2012 data sheet by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, among 10- to 24-year-olds, homicide is the leading cause of death for African-Americans.
State Department of Labor Releases Job Numbers
The total number of jobs statewide in December declined by about 3,900 last month after an increase of 3,800 in November. State Labor Department officials say unemployment dropped two-tenths of a percent, to 7.4 percent .
