Eversource has hardly been out of the news since the prolonged restoration of power in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias. And the latest headline concerns a $700 million loan the utility says it would like the state to underwrite.
Eversource says restructuring its debt would allow it to avoid requesting big rate hikes to cover the cost of the post-Isaias cleanup. That request went first to the co-chairs of the legislature’s Energy and Technology Committee, one of whom is state Sen. Norm Needleman.
He joined Connecticut Public Radio’s All Things Considered host John Henry Smith to discuss the utility and a bill that the legislature will consider in special session later this month.
