U.S. Senator Chris Murphy said that he, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, and U.S. Representative Jim Himes met with General Electric Co. chief executive Jeff Immelt in an effort to keep the industrial giant from leaving Connecticut.
Murphy told Hearst Connecticut Media that the three Connecticut Democrats met with Immelt on Wednesday on Capitol Hill to make clear they are "prepared to move heaven and earth" to keep GE in the state. A spokesman for GE did not comment.
GE, responding to about $700 million in business-related tax increases, said in June that it's considering relocating its Fairfield headquarters. It employs about 5,700 workers in Connecticut and 800 at its headquarters.
The General Assembly and Governor Dannel Malloy scaled back some tax increases.
The company is expected to decide by the end of 2015 on its Fairfield site.
