Jack Hitt will speak at R.J. Julia Booksellers Thursday, May 17, at 7 p.m.
Today I got into a Twitter debate with a guy who thinks the press spends too much time covering candidates who aren't really legitimate contenders.
I'm on the other side of that these days. I told him I think anybody running should be invited to the debates.
He wrote back, in all seriousness: " I could see someone with legitimate 'outsider' credentials getting invited to a debate."
How can there be such a thing as legitimate outside credentials?
This is a question that has -- in several forms, fascinated the show lately. Today writer Jack Hitt will take us deep inside the world of people who practice archeology, or astronomy, or DNA research, or robotics without a license.
I think it's fair to say they're a mixed blessing, but as Hitt argues, there's something fundamentally American about them.
