Human Trafficking Around the World and in Connecticut

U.S. Department of State
Sex trafficking happens around the world, from India (pictured) to Connecticut.

Human trafficking is a global problem. But it's not something that just happens overseas. Minors are exploited throughout the United States, even in Connecticut. In recent years, the state and federal governments have passed legislation to increase penalties for people who use children as commodities whether for sex or labor. State agencies like the Department of Children and Families have partnered with anti-trafficking organizations to help victims become survivors.

This hour, we find out more about how a local group works to help survivors and prevent other young people from being victimized. We also talk with a former federal prosecutor who helped convict traffickers and now works for a nonprofit as Director of Justice initiatives. She talks about her new role and how technology is being used to combat this global problem.

GUESTS:

  • Rob Morris - President and co-founder of Love146
  • Erin Williamson - Survivor Care Program Director at Love146
  • Krishna Patel - General counsel and Justice Initiative Director at Grace Farms Foundation
