How To Avoid What Any of Us Can Develop: Pre-Diabetes

Pre-diabetes is not fun, but the way we eat can help us avoid developing it, as well as full blown adult-onset diabetes, says Dr. Reza Yavari of Connecticut.

Yavari is a metabolic specialist and many of his clients work to avoid diabetes or manage the condition. Yavari, who has a Beyond Care practice in Madison, and is part of Yale's Northeast Medical Group in Trumbull, says:

  • Fat often causes insulin resistance.
  • Exercise can change blood sugar levels.
  • Stress can raise blood sugar.
  • Healthy muscle mass is especially important to manage diabetes.

This hour we'll find out:

  • if diabetes can be reversed
  • whether all fat is considered the same
  • how to gain lean muscle instead of fat
  • the best diet for controlling blood sugar
  • whether resistance training is better than aerobics for those with diabetes
  • how stretching affects diabetes
  • the need for organizational skills in managing diabetes
  • how to avoid emotional eating; and knowing how much alcohol is too much
