Hartford’s mayor announced the city is launching the Reentry Welcome Center for people returning to the community after being incarcerated.
It’s one of several reentry programs in the state connecting former inmates to support services in their local communities.
Mayor Luke Bronin said Hartford’s center is designed to be a one-stop process than can serve about 150 people a year.
“Somebody who’s coming back into the community and wants to get their life on track can get support whether it’s in the form of clothes and food, or whether it’s in the form of job counseling, job training and the assistance they need to help rebuild a life that is contributing to the community,” Bronin said.
The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving awarded a three-year, $450,000 grant for the facility.
The center will also collect data and track referral outcomes across the various partnerships with state and city agencies.
