Former State Representative to Stand Trial on Election Fraud Charges

Former Bridgeport state Rep. Christina Ayala has turned down a plea deal with prosecutors and will go to trial on election fraud charges.

The Connecticut Post reports Ayala and her lawyer appeared Wednesday before Superior Court Judge Earl Richards and confirmed her decision.

Ayala and her attorney Guy Soares did not comment on specifics of the plea offer from prosecutors.

Thirty-one-year-old Ayala has pleaded not guilty to eight counts of fraudulent voting, 10 counts of primary or enrollment violations and one count of evidence tampering. She is accused of voting in and representing a district where she didn't live, and with fabricating evidence about her address.

She lost the Democratic primary for the 128th House District last year.
