Vaping devices will be part of a drug takeback event this weekend for the first time in the state.
Connecticut law enforcement agencies are collecting vaping pens, cartridges, and pods along with unused prescription pills, as part of a national drug takeback event on Saturday. The inclusion of vaping devices in the take back comes as 34 people in Connecticut have recently gotten sick from vaping. One person has died.
“In recent times, vaping products have become quite a national problem,” said Connecticut State Police Lt. Col. David Montini. “People are getting addicted to these substances and we recognize that if we can also take back these and get them off the street, the public is better for it.”
Residents can put the vaping devices and drugs in boxes at municipal police stations, state police barracks, and resident state trooper buildings.
State police are asking state residents to make sure there aren’t batteries attached to any e-cigarette they give up.
