DraftKings Strikes Prospective Deal With Foxwoods For Sports Betting

Sports betting company DraftKings Monday announced an agreement with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, the owner of Foxwoods Resort Casino. The company says the move was made because it expects the General Assembly will legalize sports betting in Connecticut. In a press release, DraftKings says the agreement will allow it to expand its reach. Tribal Chairman Rodney Butler says the casino will work through tribal gaming compacts. Connecticut's two casino-owning tribes argue that those compacts give them exclusive rights to a broad swath of gaming, but exactly how broad has been in dispute in recent years, as new technologies have expanded the kinds of online gambling that can be offered.
