Donovan began his career as a union organizer.

Former House Speaker Chris Donovan has a new job. CT News Junkie reports Donovan will take up a position with the Connecticut Education Association.

The CEA says Donovan will begin as a field representative for the teachers' union in Trumbull, Milford and Stratford. He will be responsible for negotiating and enforcing contracts for public school teachers in those towns.

Donovan, who began his career as a union organizer, ran for the Democratic nomination for the Fifth Congressional District two years ago. But his candidacy became mired in controversy when two aides were charged with conspiracy over what federal prosecutors said was a plot to hide the source of campaign funds. Donovan himself was never charged in the case.

Elizabeth Esty went on to win the Democratic primary, and then the fifth district seat that year.
