A Central Connecticut State University professor is suspended after the latest in a string of arrests. Ravi Shankar, a poetry professor, was arrested for third-degree larceny after attempting to return unpaid merchandise for store credit at a Middletown Home Depot.
The Hartford Courant reports Shankar will not be paid while suspended. He was promoted last year to full professor while in jail during a pretrial confinement period on previous charges.
State Senator Kevin Witkos called for the professor to be fired and wrote a letter to CCSU President Jack Miller.
The Republican lawmaker proposed a bill last session that would require background checks before promoting a state university professor.
