Connecticut's largest business organization is launching a radio ad campaign, urging state lawmakers and Governor Dannel Malloy to find substantial, long-term solutions to the state's budget woes.

The Connecticut Business and Industry Association began running spots Monday across the state, saying Connecticut needs to reform how state government operates and close short- and long-term deficits without increasing taxes.

Legislative leaders from both major parties have been meeting privately with Malloy in recent weeks to come up with a bipartisan plan for closing an estimated $350 million to $370 million shortfall in the current $20 billion budget. Those talks are expected to resume Tuesday.

Lawmakers have said they hope to hold a special legislative session during the second week of December.

The Connecticut Hospital Association has also been running ads.

The Associated Press is one of the largest and most trusted sources of independent newsgathering, supplying a steady stream of news to its members, international subscribers and commercial customers. AP is neither privately owned nor government-funded; instead, it's a not-for-profit news cooperative owned by its American newspaper and broadcast members.
