A Bennington, Vermont manufacturing plant is closing, putting 62 people out of work.

Plasan North America announced Thursday that it would close its facility in the southwestern Vermont town in July.

Plasan President Keith Rayborn says economic realities in the defense industry forced the company to consolidate its facility in Michigan.

The company is promising to work with the state of Vermont to provide training for its employees to help them find new jobs. The employees will also be given severance packages.

The plant manufactures armor for vehicles and other defense components. Plasan's Michigan operation in Michigan will continue to manufacture defense components.
