Yale New Haven Health has announced plans to create forty new jobs in New London as it consolidates its affiliation with the city’s Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
The health care giant has decided to centralize the billing functions for one of its physician groups in the city, saying it's adopting the best practices of L+M Healthcare. The move will preserve 79 existing jobs, as well as adding the new positions.
Patrick Green is the new CEO of Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
"Our commitment is to improving the health of the community," he told WNPR. "We look forward to embracing our partnership with the city of New London. Our goal is to really reshape the health care delivery model in this community."
New London Mayor Michael Passero said the revival of Lawrence and Memorial, alongside new jobs at submarine maker Electric Boat are positive signs for the city.
"Right now the housing market in New London is booming," he said. "And it's thanks to this affiliation, the optimism people have about it, and the EB jobs that are being created. So the future of New London is truly bright."
Yale New Haven Health officially took over L+M in September last year.
