A Look At Microfinance

Muhammad Yunus won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006for his work pioneering the concept of “micro credit,” providing small loans to village entrepreneurs as a way to fight poverty.

The Bangladeshi economist was supposed to be in Connecticut today, speaking at Quinnipiac University – but he’s had to cancel his plans because the government of Bangladesh is claiming he violated laws and wants him to step down from the bank he founded. He is fighting this decision - A court ruling is expected today.

Today, where we live, we’ll get an update from the Quinnipiac professor who was bringing Yunus to the state – and we’ll do an update on the state of microfinance, including a look at a Quinnipiac program aimed at making a difference in Nicaragua, and possibly here in Connecticut too.
