This weekend marks the grand re-opening of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford.
The museum has been undergoing a $33 million renovation for the past five years. Susan Talbott, director and CEO of the Wadsworth, said the museum has fifteen new galleries with over 1,000 artworks on view.
"You come in, you walk through our new contemporary galleries and you enter Morgan Great Hall. And you will see it in a way that it has never been seen before. You go to the second floor and there you see all of our great European masterworks: painting, sculpture, and decorative arts integrated in a new concept," Talbott said.
There’s also a new "Cabinet of Art and Curiosities," which Talbott calls an immersive experience about art and nature.
"And this is where we use interactive technology. So the public can come in, sit down at this large table that has specimens on it, that has invaluable artworks in cases in it. They can look at the art all around them, look down at their computer screens and create their own Cabinet of Curiosity," she said.
