Governor Dannel Malloy said he'll turn the focus onto solving Connecticut's transportation challenges in his second term.
Speaking to the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce, the governor said that fixing bridges, widening roads, and investing in mass transit can be a driver of economic development.
"Nobody's had an honest conversation with the people of Connecticut about transportation," Malloy said. "It's as if we want to forever complain about it, and have our leaders forever do relatively little about."
And Malloy had a confession. "In point of fact," he said, "I haven't done enough in the past four years... Now it's time to grip this thing, to understand what we have to do to be competitive."
The governor told the meeting the state hasn't sufficiently invested in transportation in two generations, but he didn't discuss potential funding sources for new investment.
