College Readiness

Last week, we talked aboutwhat can be done to get students ready to work - and then get into a job. But here’s something holding them back:

About two-thirds of students entering community colleges and 20 percent of those entering state universities are placed in remedial and developmental math and English courses.

Last year, Gov. Malloy signed a new law into effect, “An Act Concerning College Readiness and Completion.” It provides support for graduating high school seniors, to help them better prepare for college or the workforce.

Today, where we live, we’ll find out what’s in this law...we’ll talk about remediation and look at the ways students are falling behind when it comes to college prep.

And we’ll look at some programs that have been working in schools for years, and are getting students interested early.
